SimplyMEPIS 3.4-2 RC 2 Progress Update

We know many of you have been watching the site for an announcement about the latest ISO upload.  Unfortunately, that is going to be delayed for a few more days.  So, take some time off to enjoy the holidays, and then start watching the site again next week.

What is the reason for the delay?  This is what I like to call the "snowball effect."  Something gets changed, and then something else needs to change, and, well, you get the idea.

Here's that latest on the Simply Snowball.

Because of all the feedback we received regarding the printer situation, we decided it would be best to switch over to udev.  This is coming along, and has been working well in testing.

Once udev was added, the kernel needed to be upgraded from 2.6.12 to 2.6.14.   Warren has been working on this, and so far, so good, but it's going to take at least another day.

We are still receiving reports that some printers, particularly older HP parallel printers, aren't working.  We are getting one of these printers shipped to us, and it should be here on Monday or Tuesday.

By the time the printer gets here, Simply should be in good shape, with a new kernel and udev.  Then we'll be able to troubleshoot the printer and upload another release candidate as soon as possible.  The new release candidate will incorporate as many community requests as possible - including the option to install GRUB in root.  Please help us out by testing the new RC when it's available.
