Logitech Quickcam Messenger Webcam setup
Posts: 57
I run SimplyMEPIS 3.4-1rc1
I am trying to set up my USB Logitech Quickcam Messenger Webcam.
When Mepis boots Logitech pops up a couple of times in the boot messages, right after my printer.
Once I log in I can't get Camstream to recognize that it is there. There is no camera in the chooser box. How do I tell the program that the camera is there? Do I need to use a different program?
Any help on this would be appreciated.
I ran kudzu -p and it comes up with the following regarding a USB camera.

Walk through

If you or someone could walk me through doing that I would appreciate it. Do I need to download anything to do this, or is it installed from the live CD distro 3.4.1-RC1? I am still something of a noob. Is it a command line or Xshell function/program?

I just re-installed Mepis

I just re-installed Mepis using the 3.4-2 RC1 Live CD my Logitech webcam worked right out of the box without having to download and install any drivers. When I originally installed Mepis using the 3.3.1 live CD, it didn't work out of the box.

I had the same prolem with my Logitech webcam. To correct the problem it is neccessary to install the SPCA5xx driver. I did an install of the source and ran the Module-Assistant to compile and install the driver. I found recompiling the code better for the quality of the picture. The latest version is SPCA5xx-121205 I believe. This should correct the problem.
