ATI 9600 AIW on Mepis 2003.10 ?
Hi all...
I'm having a new PC built for the family, time to upgrade from the P3 that we use now. I'd like to dual boot Win XP pro and Mepis but have a couple questions about the vid card.
I used to have a machine that used a AIW 8500, it worked on SuSE but only some of the functions...
I'm curious if anyone knows if the 9600 AIW 128MB card will work with Mepis? I'm mostly concerned with the 3D accel. but also with TV tuner and video capture.
Oh, and as a side thought, Sony 8x DVD =/- R/RW drive. I'm assuming it will be fine but have never tried a DVD burner under Linux...
Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks!

Wow, great info guys, thanks.
Wow, great info guys, thanks.
I did a search on ATI website but got very little on Linux. I figured there would be issues.
I'm probably going to end up with that card on our primary box, since the wife refuses to let go of her Windows world, and she's the one that wants the TV tuner and video capture from the card.
I was hoping it would work under Mepis as well...
I have another machine that I'm happy with, runs an Nvidia card and works great... that 9600 AIW is just an awesome card.
I saw benchmarks recently that showed it outperformed the 9600 Pro 3D card it's based on.
I guess I'll stick with my current machine for video under Linux until someone masters the ATI drivers for Linux.
With as fast as things are growing (especially on Mepis) I'm sure it won't be long before everything works (including the remote)
