Raid 1 with Via VT 8237 on ASUS A7V600; will it work?

I need to have a reliable solution for storage, and have concluded that the safest option for me would be to set up a RAID 1 disk set of 2 160 Gb SATA drives.

I have an ASUS A7V600-X motherboard with the Via VT8237 chipset. This chipset supports setting up a mirror RAID set from the BIOS, so I suspect you can consider this a hardware RAID.

Before I order the disks, I would like to know if someone could confirm this works. From what I've googled around, it should be doable, but I also came across problems that the RAID set would not be bootable and stuff like that.

So, if someone can shed some more light on this, I'd be thankful. I wouldn't want to buy two new drives if they cannot be used for mirrorring...
