Locale???
I am slovak. Slovakia is small country in the middle of europe and has 5mil. Every better distro has support for my language only one good distro Mepis doesnt support it.
Every time when i install Mepis i must at first: Run command dpkg-reconfigure locales and add my locale to system as default, then i download slovak language for KDE, after this step i must change locale for KDE and also change font in KDE because the default font doesnt display slovak charakters and finally install locale for OpenOffice, mozilla firefox...
Im using now Mepis 3.4.3-rc2 and i hope that other releases will support my language.
I like Mepis please fix it.

What's wrong with my question/reply?
What's wrong with the idea to use whatever works for you? I thought that's the philosophy behind Linux...
Beside sending a message to Warren there's nothing he can do about it, if Warren doesn't do as he asks, his only choice is to use whatever works for him.
And no, I don't drink coffee.

I see i'm missing out on all the fun. But i think AdrianTM is right, "use what works for you". Now can't slovakian be installed from the repo's? You can also try putting the ubuntu repo in your browser address and going to the site and download the .deb and see if you can install it on mepis.

For me is Mepis more stabil. I like Mepis more like Kubuntu. Now i have my locale in Mepis no problem but i think will be easy for devs add slovak locale to installer and then for example ask that on cd arent all packages for KDE for my language and download them automatic from net. That was answer in question AdrianTM. When i want use whatever works for me i have to use Windows?

Clarification Please

Tomasso, you indicated that, "Now I have my locale in Mepis...". How did you eventually get this configured? If you can give us the steps you went through then perhaps it can be incorporated in future releases, or at least documented

Steps

1.) When is installation done run terminal and there type command dpkg-reconfigure locales there follow instructions install slovak locale and set it as default.
2.) Run Synaptic manager and install slovak language for KDE and for OpenOffice... Search word- Slovak.
3.) After download locale run KDE Control Panel and in Accessibility-> Region & Language add Slovak Language and Slovak Country.
4.) Then change font to other becasuse default font doesnt know our slovak characters.
5.) For Firefox isnt slovak language in repositories so you can find them on http://www.mozilla.sk/download/

It doesn't sound THAT hard, if you want you can put the how-to in Wiki, we already have Greek and Japanese locale howtos there.

Thanks for the update Tomasso. I'm sure it will come in handy for others trying to load different languages on their system. Talk with AdrianTM to see what's necessary to set up the howto
Jon

Hope so too, but......

I wouldn't put any money on it.
Many smaller distros (Mepis included) prefer to save space by only including "popular" languages and so use the saved space for other apps.
Mepis ony uses one cd whereas others that do have better language support (SUSE, Mandriva, Knoppix) are available as a dvd or a set of cds.
Not saying that that's the way it should be, just explaining why I think it happens.
BTW I don't get Greek either.(There are 10 million)lol
