I tested rc 1 & 2 but I have not had a chance to install the new rc, any feed back on it good or bad ? Are all your drives now showing? Can you install with your choice of file system? Is Grub loading the system ok? Did your HD throw up? Barf! Inquiring minds want to know. Smiling

Re rc2.1

RC 1 & 2 worked fine for me. RC 2.1 detects my hard drive during the boot process, but loses it by the time boot is complete. Finds neither my windoze partitions nor my Linux partitions. df shows tempfs mounted on /dev/shm and /dev but nothing else is mounted. No hard drives show up in /dev whatsoever.

Yep, I had the same problem on one boot of the cd, on another boot it found my drives, as I use ext3 for me it was about the same as rc2.
I think the reason windows was not in Grub is the same reason MEPIS did not find your HD's, what ever that is, also we still have no floppy. May be tomorrow will bring us a new rc to test and we will have all are drives, even the floppy.

No FDD, other MEDIA ok

No FDD, other MEDIA ok now.
IBM R50 Thinkpad.
Install worked well Ext3, had already done work around to get rc1 installed.
FDD shows on desktop, but no mount, this is interesting because it is a removable USB floppy.
USB works well. Card reader, webcam, flash memory.
DVD.CD-R/CD-RW now shows & works.
HP-DJ948c USB prints.

Can't wait to upgrade KDE3.5 to get media managment window pop-ups [most missed feature by new folks to PC's] and adblocking in Konq.
Rc1 upgraded to KDE 3.5 [xorg 6.8.x] with out a hitch, sweet as... will try rc2.1 shortly. rc1-kde3.5 runs faster too...

Only missing FDD, ATI video driiver install, IBM thinkpad surport, these plus headers etc will come as will the final.

So far looking better than good, fastboot, snappy runing Smiling

Yippppeeeeeeee

Some feedback from me. I'm really enjoying this RC2.1 and this is soon going to replace my Mepis 3.3 (upgraded) install.

I use reiserfs, and did not install grub- I chainloaded to a previous Mepis install.

Apart from no floppy dd, everything else on my 4 year old box works wonderfully.

My specs:
AMD 2000
512 RAM
dvd rw and cd rw
DSL internet connection
nvidia

Nvidia worked (as always) out of the box.
eth0 detected out of the box
bootup time from grub to working system, very quick, 55 secs (using fluxbox as wm)
audio (cd) works out of the box
dvd (after installing libdvdcss) no problems in either kaffeine, mplayer. vlc. Same with divx, mpeg etc
Epson stylus C62 USB printer worked straight away after setup (as before)
USB mass storage detected with no problems in konqueror, but I had to edit fstab in order to use rox-filer (not Mepis's fault this, but I can't work without rox lol)

A great job (only one problem for me ie floppy)

re: Re rc2.1

Interesting. Upon reading Bad Dog's post, I tried booting with the rc2.1 cd a 2nd time. This time all my HD partitions were recognized. Perhaps the timing issue relating to the new udev hasn't been completely resolved in this rc? Will try installing to an unused partition, and see what results.

Apart from having no floppy,

Apart from having no floppy, DVD does not work for me (even after installing libdvdcss). Kaffeine complains about no media or no permissions on hdc.....

Other than that, no problems, but it is a pity that the new version does not seem to have all media plugins for Firefox on board. I can install them, but the 'wow' effect with newbies will be less now I'm afraid.

EDIT:
DVD DOES work. I had to pick Kaffeine as engine. A bit confusing, since the xine engine used to show up with its proper name, but it works....

Newbie or not Newbie, there's always a question
