Simply Great!!! Here's two things I did to the new rc to get me going.

1. For dual booting I added a new line to my menu.lst: "root (hd0,6)". You will need to change this to fit your needs, in my case it is hda7.

title MEPIS at hda7, kernel 2.6.15-1-586tsc
root (hd0,6)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-1-586tsc root=/dev/hda7 nomce quiet vga=791
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-1-586tsc

2. The Floppy Drive, my solution is not perfect, but it works.
Start "File Manager Super User" and first make a new folder in "media" and name the new folder "fd0", second open "fstab" and add this new line above "# Dynamic entries":
"/dev/fd0 /media/fd0 vfat,ext2,hfsplus noauto,users,dev,sync,dirsync 0 0"
Now you can use KDF or the Desktop icon to mount and unmount the floppy drive. Problem, after you unmount the floppy drive the Desktop icon still shows as being mounted, but if you check KDF you will see that it is not, so it is really not a problem. Smiling Thanks Warren and crew, looking good.

SimplyMEPIS 3.4-3rc3

YES im impressed i just installed it over 3.4.3rc2-1 . Every thing is setup and working , even my username and password for Mepis.org login . I couldnt get my canon S600 working in last rc , 3.4.3rc3 has it ready to go , cant remember last time that happened. In fact i installed grub to root and booted to 3.4.3rc3 without changing grub menu.lst in main partition.

And on subject of non working printer in last rc i had a strange experience with modprobe it didnt seem to work is it being left behind?
When i tried to setup printer wizard would show parallel dev but when i clicked on it caption box that usually says parallel:/dev/lp0 said parallel:/dev/unknown-parallel0 , strange . So i did lsmod and it clearly showed various lp paraport modules and when i did a modprobe for these various modules i allways got a fatal module not found response . The real strange part is i rebooted into 3,4.2rc1 , where printing did work and got the same response to the modprobe command . Now im really confused ! If anyone can shine some light on this i would like to hear it . But so far 3.4.3rc3 seems to be a keeper!

RC3 still doesn't find my HP PSC 1210 scanner.

While perhaps better than RC2, RC3 still doesn't find my HP PSC 1210 scanner. This is with either the HP 1210 or HP 1210 hpijs drivers

Is the some command line query I could run on Kubuntu 5.10 and Mepis 3.4-3 RC 3 to try to figure out what might be the additional software Kubuntu has? I know SUSE 10.0 seems to install the scanner eparately. With Kubuntu the scanner works once the printer driver is selected. By the way SuSE 10 has some severe file handling problems. and 10.1 beta is even worse.

As for the OnTheGo, the USB key is properly found by KwikDisk as /mnt/sda1 The icon for it on the desktop is more ore less correct, but it has a small glitch of
the -> "Properties" -> "General Tab"
saying:
"Type: Mounted Removable Medium"
"Location: / media"

It's actually located in the /mnt directory. I can read and write to it, but it is not found by OnTheGo when I log in as OnThe Go

The Mepis OS center "Install Me" -> create OnTHe Go Disk shows nothing in the drop down next to "Disk"
It claims to successfully create the OntheGo Disc saying, "The OnTheGo disc is ready." It's very doubtful though because I wrote a file to it (/mnt/sda1) and it's still there after the alleged creation process.

Is there a command I can use to see if the OnTheGo file in the key drive is actually there?

I was really hoping to use this feature and had purchased some USB keys specifically for it. Again, these keys do work with DSL Linux and Kanotix.

Scanning is most important to me. I can scan with SuSE, but don't like using SuSE. I can scan with Kubuntu, but don't like it either.
I have been a Mepis exclusive user for several years, and obviously would like to these bugs worked out.

More Info:

CD icons are not on the desktop. CD drive is found under /media/hdc
KwikDisc doesn't see it until after it's mounted through konqueror.
As demo I can't umount the /hdc and I can't copy an mp3 from it to /sda1 although I can save an mp3 stream being played by Kaffine to /sda1 and the then play it from /sda1 using kaffine. "wmv" files don't play but mpegs do.

Can't play Internet radio station KPOJ http://www.620kpoj.com/listen/index.php
with out installing a plug in, but on Kanotix the station will play from the live CD.

Can copy files from CD (/media/hdc) with kdesu konqueror, can play the files with demo konqueror when kdesu umounts /media/hdc it totally disappears from KDF. After that time neither demo or kdesu root can mount /media/hdc although demo could do it before.

I suspect 'udev" is far from production ready. while hot mount wasn't perfect. It seems far better than udev which at this point is just plain screwed up. I think SuSe's problems are related to udev as the drives are more or less all reported out incorrectly. Kanotix seems to use it successfully, but can tell you that it's unstable. 'udev" more or less works with Fedora, but again there are inconsistencies in how a given USB device is reported out. Scanner doesn't work on Fedora Core 4 either. Really the version of Mepis I'm presently using is about the best OS I've ever used. To me Rc3 seems like a big step backwards. I would rather have a Re-release of Mepis 3.3.1 with a working OnTheGo added, and and updated package repository list.

KPOJ http://www.620kpoj.com/listen/index.php

Joe the station plays for me just fine. check to see if mplayerplug-in is installed. that is what is being used to play kpoj on mine.

Starwatcher

I'm just using the live CD,

I'm just using the live CD, I have not done an installation. Do you think a full install would improve all the problems I'm experiencing? Again Kanotix plays the station just fine as a "Live CD." with nothing else installed.

So far so good. Installed

So far so good. Installed RC3 on a separate SATA drive. Install went fast and smooth. CD and DVD show up on desktop and DVD playing works. Scanner OK, sound OK, network OK.

Plugin for streaming video in Firefox is not as complete as in 3.3, at least so it seems.

Mepis saw all partitions on the SATA drive and the IDE disk in the machine, as well as the floppy, which I did not test however.

Serial port works OK: my Wacom tablet works perfectly.

In short: this seems to be close to a final version....

Newbie or not Newbie, there's always a question

Wifi: Problems con WEP

Installed Mepis 3.4-3rc3 (and 3.4-3rc2.1 and.....) on a IMB laptop T41. My wireless card is a
Intel(R) Pro/Wireless LAN 2100 3B.

Wireless is found on eth1 and works fine without WEP encryption. When I turn on WEP encryption and try to establish connection the OS-center freeze and reboot is not possible (Code bad EIP value) In order to boot I need to change the file /etc/mepis-network/wireless/default back to initial state.

On the same machine I got installed Mepis 3.3.2 and I am running wifi with WEP encryption without problems. To make it work I had to use ndiswrapper.

Using ndiswrapper on 3.4.3rc3 does not fix the problem.

Anybody got the same problems?

Anybody got the solution? Smiling

I tried your radio link and it did not work for me, but I did get it working, I may have done a bit of over kill, but this is what I did, first I removed FF 1.5(I don't care for 1.5), moz plug-in, mplayer gui and then installed from etch(testing) FF 1.07, moz plug-in, mplayer gui and win32 code ethics. Now I can play my Woodsongs and your radio station, it's never been better. I should mention that I did upgrade KDE before trying your radio link, the reason was that I was not happy with K3B and the version in the rc was not able to be reinstalled and I could not go backwards. My install is now a mixture of MEPIS, sid, etch and sarge, and it is all working very sweet. Smiling
