Lexmark z615 not working

I installed Mepis 3.4-3.rc3. Then installed the printer using add printer in the printers control center. The control center sees the printer under the USB port. When I test the printer, it says it has successfully sent the test page to the printer but the printer does not print. The cables are connected, there is no paper jam, & the there are no print jobs queued. Entering lpq in the console reports that the printer is ready, no entries. The printer works under windoze. Any Suggestions? Thanks

printer driver

What printer driver did you use? I just bought a Z517 because I got it for a steal of a price. I read in a Gentoo forum posting (found via a google search) that most of the Z5xx and Z6xx printers work with a Z600 driver. I haven't had a chance to try it, but it's on my list of things to do.

Lexmark Z615

I used the Z600 linux driver.

Lexmark z615

Last year with an earlier version of Simply, I had the same printer working on the same computer setup. I have tried installing new drivers then selecting the new drivers in print manager but it still won't work. This version is not of much use if you cannot even print.

Z615

I have upgraded to 3.4-3.rc4 and it also does not work wwith the z611
test print goes to the que new dissapears

z611

I found the driver at http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:390:0:0&emeaframe=&fileID=1151
and got stuck til google found this http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=203107
so I typed #sh z600cups-1.0-1.gz.sh -keep and got a rpm that I used #alien --scripts z600cups-1.0-1.i386.rpm tried to install teh deb file but got errors. Tried the lexinstall file in the same folder but it gave an error "error while loading shared libraries: libtcl8.3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" so I am still working on it, thought maybe if I put ths up some one could tell me what I am doing wrong or something. I will post back if I get it.

Can I suggest another approach

Not wishing to upset anybody here, but how about boycotting Lexmark printers altogether.

I have never been impressed with their print quality, they cost too much to run and they aren't well supported in Linux. For me, that's 3 good reasons.

I had the same problem, but

I had the same problem, but with a Z611, which uses same driver though. But my question is, why is the Z600 driver in KDE if it don't work?

Lexmark

Have you tried adding any legacy drivers or nosed around in kpackage or synaptic for any added function packages ? Printer drivers have been changing quite a bit lately as with Mepis . Foomatic has changed to gutenprint and in some releases lately both will work with my Canon S600 and others wont . One release didnt put the right url in box at bottom of print setup and wouldnt print till i changed it to paralell:/dev/lp0 .
In short just try every thing you can and look closely , try all the drivers , i had to use a bjc8200 driver in one release . You might look at http://www.mepis.org/view/9705 in case the url is wrong . Good luck!
