RC3 Power down - NOT

Currently using 3.3.1-1. Everything works great. Waited for 3.4.3 rc3 as it seems it may be "the one" and burned a cd to try. Everything works great....except...when logging off and shutting down computer there is a problem. The shutdown process starts, lots of informative text flashes by until it gets to the line "power off"...and then..nothing it just hangs there. At this point this "feature" is the only thing scaring me away from upgrading. BTW..don't have any such probs with other distros tried.

Anyone experience this?

I think you can try to add

I think you can try to add acpi=force on kernel line. Try that and report back.

At the expense of sounding more noobish than I am (I think) can you tell me the exact location of the directory/file I'll be adding/changing this parameter. Believe it or not, I've never had to attempt anything regarding the kernel before.

Thanks!

You could try at first to

You could try at first to add that at boot time (there's a place where you can add arguments) if that works you can add it permanently to /boot/grub/menu.lst (edit it as root) Add that option to the line that starts with "kernel".
