I trying to use dvd decrypter but it failes to detect my cdrom.
I have made symbolic link to /wine/dosdevices directory

drwxr-xr-x 5 rainer users 4096 2006-01-28 00:05 ../
lrwxrwxrwx 1 rainer users 10 2006-01-05 20:36 c: -> ../drive_c/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 rainer users 10 2006-01-27 23:47 d: -> /mnt/cdrom/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 rainer users 1 2006-01-05 20:36 z: -> //
and if i browse to select a destination folder in dvddecrypter i can see my cdrom there. But i get still error "no device detected"
Do i miss something ?

.....
Decrypted dvd with k9copy with option "keep all menus" and now i have
5.6 g iso image. If i use k9copy without option "keep all menus" it fits
dvd files to 4.7 g disk but i cannot access dvd menus from my dvd player. I don't use computer to watch dvd so i need to access menus from
dvd player to select lanquage and etc. Now i tried to shrink my dvd with dvd shrink 3.2 installed in wine. It shrinks it to 70 % then i get an error message "cannot access memory location"
So far i have used clone dvd to backup my dvd disks but i removed my xp partition recently to gain more space.
Seems that i have to install xp back but i really don't like to do that be course backing up my dvd -s was only task i was doing in xp.
Any ideas
Thanks
No No No......Don't go back to the evil side Luke..Just
Install VLC
I recently needed to rip a dvd and installed vlc along with all
the other little perks...libdvdcss and w32codecs
and vwallah...copied that dvd perfectly....
I believe k9copy and dvdauthor will both also do this for you
ANYTHING BUT WINDOZE......CMON....
dvd
Hello burdicda
Well, k9copy will decrypt my dvd and shrink it to fit into 4.7 g disk
and if i watch it from computer i have lanquage and other options available. But for some reason i cannot access menu options from external dvd -player. I believe k9copy removes some menu options when it shrinks dvd. I prefer to play dvd from external dvd -player
so my children can watch dvd and i can sit behind computer.
Clone dvd copies work perfectly in my dvd -player.
Can VLC shrink dvd with full menus or it would just transcode it to different format ?
Thanks
Sorry For Delay
You know now that I think about it....I didnt clone the dvd
I ripped it and saved the file as an mpeg
and then just copied that to a cd...
dvd shrink
Hi
DVDshrink is working, it shrinks my dvd with no problem but i cannot make iso image with dvdshrink. At least i could not find any options to do that (dvdshrink version 3.2). I know that nero can burn dvd files (ifo pub and vob) and link them together so they will work on dvd player. K3b does not obviesly have this feature......
How can i burn dvd files ?
Would be okay to make iso with mkisofs ?
Thanks
Rainer
success
I shrinked my dvd with dvdshrink without decrypting.
Seems that i can simply copy dvd to hard disk without decrypting it first. Dvdshrink shows that dvd is encrypted but shrinks it still.
Then i made iso from it by using following instructions:
http://dvd.chevelless230.com/
and burned with k3b
and works in my dvd player
I believe it's also possible to decrypt it after shrinking with k9copy
using option "keep all menus"
but i thought the coal of decrypting dvd is to prevent of making illegal copies.
Thanks to all folks for help
Rainer
k9copy
Hi all
Yesterday i upgraded k9copy to version 1.0.3.
New version is great, it makes copy, decrypts,
shrinks it to fit on 4.7 g disk
and it works in my standalone dvd player. All menus are available !
works like original.
Yeah........

Rainer
OK, we don't know
because we need more information
(remember I don't copy other people's stuff, so I have no idea)
first of all, launch the program differently
open up a konsole and type in the program name, then enter
now go ahead and try to do whatever it is that is the problem.
When it stops you should have some information back in that konsole, which you can copy-n-paste here if you can't understand it
trouble backing up dvd's...
Hi isaloka...
I'm no expert, but here is my understanding:
Some of the newer commercial dvds use some creative authoring techniques like Sony Arcoss, that older software that is not being updated can't handle, such as DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter. K9copy appears not to be able to handle this as well.
This is one of the reasons some people still dual boot windows. I hear the best free windows solution to back up your commercially owned dvds is DVDFabdecrytper. Then you can shrink with DVD Shrink to an iso image, try it out with VLCplayer as it can play an iso image, then burn with imgburn or k3b.
hope this helps,
