WUSB54G problems
Posts: 3
I'm using Mepis 3.3.1 and trying to get a linksys wusb54g wireless usb adapter to work. So far no luck. I have copied over the driver from the linksys cd and ndiswrapper so it is installed but it says it's an "invalid driver". Also, using iwconfig wlan0, Mepis reports that wlan0 is "no such device."
By the way, I'm very much a linux newbie....trying to get used to a command line again after years away from dos.
Any ideas?

I don't recommend ndiswrapper for this card unless you can't get anything else to work -- be sure to identify your version and chipset
See here http://linux-wless.passys.nl/
Also here http://www.mepislovers-wiki.org/index.php?title=Wireless_connection
And download the user guide (.pdf link at left) -- there is a little bit on wireless on p.36
That said, if you do use ndiswrapper, sometimes you need to remove any drivers that Mepis may load first
Try ndiswrapper -l
list
and
ndiswrapper -e
remove
Also note usually two windows files are needed .sys and .inf
Hope this helps
Post to http://www.mepislovers.org -- very helpful forum
Get it working without encryption first -- then try to add encryption

Yes I did remove the drivers

Yes I did remove the drivers before trying to install them. Everytime I told ndiswrapper to reinstall it, it would return "driver invalid". I copied over all three files that were in the windows driver folder, which included a .cat, .inf and the .sys files.
I have the WUSB54G usb wireless adapter. It does not give a version number on the back so I assume it is the first version.

Did you install it as a module yet?
And did you make sure to use the WinXP drivers?
