Synaptic/Kpackage &apt-get
Posts: 3
Ive just installed Mepis 3.4-3.rc4. New Linux user.
Ive tried other distros desperately trying to start working on Linux.
Mepis works until I try to get synaptic or kpackage or apt-get to connect to the net. The repositories are all right. PCLinuxOS same deal.
I'm on ADSL with modem DLink 502T feeding into a router Dlink DI 624 which is then connected to the computer via ethernet. NIC Marvell 88E8053 PCI Express.
Please help
Sorry I should have included

Maybe your Dlink is blocking port 21, or some other port that apt-get needs. I'm not familiar with DLink 502T but perhaps it comes with port 80 (http) open, and other ports blocked. Or somebody has configured it that way?
