Cannot mount CD-RW or DVD

Sorry about asking this question. But I haven't seen this any where.

Please excuse the newbie questions, but I am just getting started using Mepis.

I cannot mount the DVD to play movies or to listen to music. The system sees them (I even have the icons on the desktop) but I cannot get to them.

Can anyone give me some idea as to how I might be able to do this?

When I try to mount this is the error that I get:

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/cdrom1,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
Please check that the disk is entered correctly.

Thanks.

No need to mount. Just right

No need to mount. Just right click the icon and tell what you want to do with it

Newbie or not Newbie, there's always a question

drlizau's picture

not with that error message.

mount won't work ,that's what it is saying.
make a symbolic link
open a konsole ; change to root
su
[password]
ln -s /dev/cdrom /dev/dvd

after this try opening your dvd.
