Konqueror file browser no longer works

I have just discovered a problem that googling and yahoo'ing can't find the problem. I can no longer use Konqueror as a normal user. When I start it as a user, it freezes up, can't scroll, can't open files. On teh other hand, I CAN use Fonqueror as root or su. Everything works flawlessly in super user mode. Where do I need to start in finding the problem with 'normal user mode'?

I tried that and the file browser works with 'user2'. The browser stopped workind (froze) a couple of days ago. It was working flawlessly and then would no work. Froze solid. It works ok under su and user2, but no longer works under 'user1'.

go to your home dir and delete:
.kde/share/config/konquerrc
.kde/share/apps/konqueror (folder)
Check again if it works like that.

Maybe a corrupted cache or sth. Try to launch konqueror from a console, and then save the profile.

Log out of kde, and log into a console. Move .kde to .kde-old, then log back into kde. Try konqueror, and see if it still freezes. You can restore your old config by logging back out of kde, removing the current .kde, and moving .kde-old back to .kde.

Based on what every one above has recommended, and you tried without result, it would appear to me that you have a rights problem. Rather than trying to chase the problem down, perhaps it would be easier to create a new user and move your important stuff over to it, then delete the bad user.
The more technical route would be to start strace and then track what library is failing. Use "man strace" for details.

After reviewing all my posts with no solutions, I'm thinking it's about time to change to a non-Deb based system. Returning to a Slack based system may be the ticket this time. I've heard a lot of good things about Vector since their last release. Perhaps it's time to go that route until Mepis goes v 4.0?
