How the heck do you control the printer
I have friends who were using Mepis on their home computer, but I have had to reinstall Windows for them because the kids cannot get their school assignments printed as it is not possible to restart the printer when it stops.
The usual cause of this is when one of the kids tries to print their homework and the printer is turned off. That immediately locks the printer.
I had tried adding the kids to group lp and lpadmin, but that doesn;t allow them to restart. No matter what I do, Mepis asks for the root password.
I even tried changing the default cups user in printer config, but Mepis still wants the root password to restart the computer.
There has to be a simple fix, but I can't find it. It would be convenient on my system too, although obviously, i don;t need to hide the root password from myself.. LOL

solved control printer
Ross,
I assume you are trying to give admin permission to an ordinary user to start and stop a printer in ???Print Manager???. To do so follow these directions:
1.K > System > Kuser (open Kuser program)
2.click ???Groups??? tab
3.locate in list ???102 lpadmin??? , double click on ???102 lpadmin???
4.In new popup window, in right column ???Users Not in Group???, locate ???ordinary_user???, select , click ???Add??? button (which moves ???ordinary_user??? to left column ???Users in Group???, click OK
5.DONE

Thanks Vince,
Sorry I was so long thanking you, but I have not visited the forum since I posted this.
I forgot that kuser even existed. Handy little tool I should explore more fully.
There is no "ordinary user" option. I assume you meant to select the name of the user I wish to allow?
On that assumption I'll check it out.
Cheers,
