tried that, didn't work. it wasn't checked to begin with.
curiously, I've had the same e-mail problem using pclinuxos, but not this problem using xandros. the sound players are better in mepis, and I'd like to stay here.
any other ideas? it says 'sending of password did not succeed. authentication failed."

Could you please give the name of your e-mail server(pop.uknowho.com), then may be I can look up what they want.

Hello
Just in every case:
Are you sure you have entered correct password ?
Did you checked thunderbird to remember your password ?
Have you tried removing the password from the list of Managed Passwords in Thunderbird?
edit - preferences -advanced -view saved passwords

Are you certain you're not trying to access a webmail server using POP3 protocol?

what's a pop3 protocol?
thanks for all the suggestions, but nothing has worked.
I'll try removing the account and starting over. the answer is out there!

In T'Bird, under your mail account check View Settings for this account | SERVER SETTINGS | UNcheck Use secure Authentication
This should do it, if I've interpreted what you and the ISP are saying.
