same entry appended to /etc/fstab each boot

Hi,

Each time I boot my SimplyMepis 3.4-3 a repeat entry for my dvd drive gets appended to "/etc/fstab".

This is a fresh 3.4-3 install with a "apt-get upgrade" from "apt.mepis.org/3.4 etch main". My system is a Dell Inspiron 8100 with a dvd rom drive.

Any ideas on how I can stop this happening ?

Regards,
Declan

A bit more info please

Are you referring to the dynamic entires that are flushed and re-created every time you shut dow and or restart, or is it in the static entries and are they accumulating?

I was just wondering because this morning, I found 3 identical entries for my optical drive under the static entries section, and it my be a bug that needs to be addressed. I have hashed 2 of them out and will restart, check it and report back in a few minutes. BTW, I have a Toshiba M30 Laptop in case it's a platform based issue.

EDIT #1
Yep, sure enough, my fstab is doing exactly the same thing. Every boot, I get another entry for my optical drive. Like yourself, I did the upgrade this morning after setting the repositories to mepis only. Could be a problem related to the latest kernel image on the repository?? I got a strange message about lilo when I upgraded this morning, but Mepis is using grub so I ignored it. That may have been related??

I'm not sure about you, but I moved all my dynamic entries into the static section and have no dynamic section in my fstab. Maybe this is a bug that tries to create a dynamic entry? I will experiment here too.

I will nuke Ubuntu and install Mepis onto my wife's AMD64 Desktop and see if it happens on her machine and report back in a few minutes again.

Anybody else getting the same thing? What causes it and what can be done to stop it?

EDIT #2
Yep, I confirm it is doing exactly the same thing on my wife's PC. Prior to the upgrade, the optical drive had no entry in the fstab, after the upgrade, one additional entry for each restart.

This one is beyond me, but I'll keep looking for a fix.

Hope someone can help more than I could.
