Turboprint driver problems w/ SimplyMepis 6.0

Printing with my Canon Pixma 4200 stops half-way through the first page and hangs. At some point, if I leave things long enough, that page will kick out and a new page will start. This will keep up until I kill the job. This problem first surfaced on the new version of Ubuntu and has not been addressed there; I've been told to buy a supported printer or that the problem is with Turboprint. This strikes me as a good way to keep microsoft in business, but never mind. I'd just like to get some pointers on where to look for info to solve this. TIA John

I should have specified the version. Turboprint has supported the Pixma iP4200 since version 1.93. Currently it's at version 1.94-2. Everything worked fine under Mepis 3.4-3 as well as under Ubuntu's Breezy Badger and Warty Warthog distributions. It's just under the new Dapper Drake Alpha that things went south.
Thanks for the reply,
John

have you tried adding the breezy repo and force install the driver you need?

The drivers for this printer (Canon PIXMA iP4200) are supplied by Turboprint. They are installing without error. The problem seems to be with the version of cups (cupsys 1.1.99.b1.r4929.out) being installed. People on the Ubuntu bugtraq (https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/cupsys/+bug/34599) have reported fixing the problem by reinstalling version 1.1.23 compiled from source on sid. I am currently just updating regularly, reporting any changes and hoping that the problem gets resolved soon.

I don't think your printer is supported in Turboprint. Not in version 1.89 anyway..... Unless it's the same as a BJC 4200 (which I doubt it is)
