All software that i mark for download comes up with the "not authenticated message" even products from openoffice??
Any ideas?

What is a gpg key is it worth installing , if so how?

Add this line into /etc/apt/apt.conf and you won't be bothered anymore:
APT::Get::AllowUnauthenticated 1;

You can install the software

You can install the software anyhow. Mepis software is not authenticated. That means mepis guru has not registered it. It's good
Openoffice etc. displays this message if you have not registered the GPG key to your system
