64 Bit way too fast
Posts: 1
I have just install Mepis Linux. After many many many many distro's, this one looks like it might be the right one for me. There is just one thing: I installed on a AMD Turion 64 bit processor. The problem is: a lot of things are running way too fast! For example: When playing an .mp3 file or music stream, the speed is about double of what it should be. This happens in every player. Same problem with flash. When opening a website which uses flash, the flash plays at about twice the normal speed. What did I do wrong and, most important, how can I solve this?
Boot parameter or BIOS upgrade

Welcome to Mepis !!
This is a known problem with many Linux distros 32 or 64 bit with AMD processor
Look on your vendor site for a BIOS upgrade
If there isn't one or you still have the problem try a boot parameter
These are added on the line the that usually ends in vga=791 on the GRUB boot panel (cursor will be there)
If you want to make permanent you can add (as root) to
/boot/grub/menu.lst
Parameters to try are
noapic nolapic
acpi=off
irqpoll
pci=noacpi
there are others ... finding the right one can be guesswork
Also they can cause other problems such as video or multimedia problems
That's why I recommend looking for a BIOS upgrade first
