Mepis (3.4.3 AND 6-Beta-2) Slooow Networking

I just installed Mepis 6 Beta 2 and noticed that it takes a long time (nearly 30 seconds) to load firefox with Google as my home page.
On the same hardware I also have Mepis 3.4.3 and it takes 23 seconds to load firefox with Google as my home page.
On the same hardware I also have Windows XP Pro and it takes 5 seconds to load firefox with Google as my home page.
I tested all 3 OS's within 3 or 4 minutes, just checking and rebooting and checking again.
Anyone know why the networking might be so sluggish on both Mepis installs?
Appreciate any help available.

networking changes ?

Nope, not using the Live CD -
Full Install on Mepis 3.4.3 AND Mepis 6 Beta2
Both upgraded with Synaptic.
Don't know why they are slow NOW, (unless something is funky with some upgraded file), Mepis 3.4.3 used to be as fast as XP as far as Internet stuff goes.
I'm not complaining mind, just wondering if the networking has maybe been changed in the Mepis 6 betas, and the newer files in the repositories. I also noticed that in Mepis 6 Beta 2 I can only get networking to work if I turn off one of my two ethernet connections. If both are running I get no ethernet at all.
In Mepis 3.4.3 I DO have both ethernet connections running, and it doesn't stop my internet connectivity.
Thanks to all of you who make GNU/Linux, (especially Mepis), so darn GOOD!

Hello lenbro
With regard to your slow networking experience with mepis 6, beta2, i just installed the same today and networking is a fast as ever on mine. Firefox 1.5.0.2 loads in an eyeblink and networking was configured via the install from live cd as with my earlier mepis pre-beta versions so i didn't have to configure it. Was there on first boot.
Just my experience with it.
everything goes round in circles

By install do you mean you are using demo / demo? ie: running off the CD and ram disks. Or did you log in as root / root and do a full install to your hard disk?
Using demo *IS* slow, as it isn't being accessed directly as it would be after an install on the HD.
