ra0 in OSCenter
Posts: 24
Does anyone know if there are any plans to put a ra0 tab into Network INterfaces in OSCenter by time 6.0 is fully released? I just used synaptic to go from beta2 to beta3 ( I think ) and there still isn't support for ra0.. I'd love to be able to set up my network to load automatically.. as well as be able to fiugre out how to see my printer that is shared from a windows machine. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mitch

I use Mepis 6 (as of 1.2.07) and the is no mnetwork that I have seen, nor does that command work. I searched mnetwork in the Mepis Document Project, and found nothing. Oscenter however comes up, but that's in older versions as you say.
I think you may have meant mutilities. Otherwise, I'd like to know more about mnetwork.
At any rate, what I already had done before seeing this reply, (mind you I already was aware of mutilities and for ra0, nothing was solved) I, of course from a different computer, downloaded the package 'wlassistant' (which is included in ubuntu) and installed it on the problem machine, and... voila. Wireless card activated, and connected.
I love how the help files tell one to install kwifimanager via apt-get... or download and install wifi radar to fix the problem and get connected. Uh, is there something wrong with that picture???
And I find it strange that no wireless program or utility in installed or included with the Mepis OS and installation, like its inspiration, Ubuntu.
But make no mistake, Mepis is an excellent Linux distro.
I see now

I did find by searching via google, and not Mepis Documentation site, the info on mnetwork- that's it's new in the beta version 6.04, whereas it is not in 6.0.
This should be pointed out for those who use Mepis 6.0 and are not aware of the existence of beta version 6.04 (testing not release).
For those whom do not have that option yet (6.0 users and back), refer back to my previous post about wlassistant.
Again this is for wireless cards being detected as ra0 and not wlan0 like normally. On my laptop, my wireless card is detected as wlan0... possibly because it is external? And the mutilities (Mepis 6.0) did work to activate the wireless card and get connected to the net.
Still broken

It looks like it's still broken in the latest beta 4. Warren did add ra0 and rausb0 during the 6.0-4 development cycle (thanks fro me). But, it doesn't work yet from what I can see testing it.
The problem is that it appears to totally ignore your settings and assumes you're using a static ip address (the defaults). Hopefully, it will work by the time 6.0-4 goes final.
See this thread for more details (and I've already sent an e-mail to about it):

It works now

Warren updated the network configuration tool.
If you load Synaptic with the 6.0-4 Betas, Reload, Mark All Upgrades and Apply, you'll get a working tool to configure ra0 and rausb0 now (works for me now anyway). The problem had something to do with an interfaces file not being updated via Synaptic.

I would also like to know the sa,e answer to this. I have a wireless card in my desktop, but it is seen as ra0.
Will there be a tab added?
Better yet, is there a way to configure this without going into settings?
