KlamAV

In all three betas, I find the same behaviour. With KlamAV setup to Update
Virus Database once a day, but with Update ClamAV and Update KlamAV both
unchecked, I get a message when KDE starts up that the ClamAV server can't be
accessed while trying to check for an update to ClamAV. I must manually
dismiss that message each time. You won't see this problematic activity if
you just start KlamAV and then exit and restart KDE. You must wait an entire
day before seeing it.

I had the same problem.
I uninstalled Klamav and installed Clamav.
I then updated everything in Synaptic Package Manager.
Then installed Klamav again.
Then updated my Mepis 6.0 to the latest Mepis release, again via Synaptic Package Manager.
The problem with Klamav seems to have cleared but I am unclear about how this may have happened.

Is uninstalling the only way?

I can't get it to work in SimplyMEPIS 6.0 Final either. It doesn't appear that anyone ever actually tried it.
When it tries to update the database, it just hangs at zero percent (and you can't close it without killing it).
So, I tried to upgrade it (via the menus on it). Nope... That didn't work either. It had errors in it's log saying please install zlib and zlib-devel packages.
I saw zlibg installed and then installed zlibg-dev.
Well, that allowed it to compile and install, but it still won't work (gives me errors like unable to change directories, unable to create files, etc., when you try to actually get it working, even running as root.
I really don't want to try and compile it if there is any easier way. I'm not that familiar with Linux, and don't really understand the relationship between ClamAV, KlamAV and anything else associated with it.
What's the easiest way to get this thing working (hopefully, via a simple GUI, or by just uninstalling and reinstalling the packages in Synaptic)?

Well, I managed to get it updated and got rid of the errors.
But, it's back to square one again.
When you go to the scan tab, it just pulls up a screen with a title of "Loading Klam AV", with this text inside "Loading lots and lots of Virus Information".
It stays stuck at 0%, and you can't close it (you have to kill it instead).
That's the way it was working to begin with (before I upgraded it).
I'll try removing it entirely (both KlamAV and ClamAV and resintalling it from Synaptic. If that doesn't work, I'll just give up on it and look for something else.

This is resolved by uninstalling KlamAV and then compiling it from source with no special parameters. I have had no problems with it since installing it from source.
The problems I reported in this thread, when using the binary supplied by Mepis, have been present in all the betas, including Mepis 6 Beta 4.
