Linksys wpc54g wireless card won't connect on Dell Inspiron 8100

I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 Pentium III. I have tried installing both Mepis 3.3.1 and 6.0 beta 3. I am trying to access a wireless network with either a Linksys WUSB54g device or a Linksys WPC54g card. In either case the system appears to recognize the device, use the device to recognise the IP address of the router, but can't connect to the router. Any suggestions - especially docuemntation or how-tos - would be appreciated. thanks bob

I have the same card and I have to do the following after I start the computer.
1st I have to go to the Mepis Config and then network interfaces and turn off the wlan0 (that is where the wireless is on this box),leave that window open and open the System Settings, I then go to the connections and activate it make sure all the info is correct in both screens. Last go back to the first screen and turn on the wlan0 and it is up. This is how I have had to start the little rascal since the 6.0 alpha, it never has auto started for me in any release.
Hope this helps you.
