SimplyMEPIS 11.0 Production Release

May 5, 2011 -- Warren Woodford is pleased to announce the release of SimplyMEPIS 11, the latest version of the renowned SimplyMEPIS Linux operating system that is designed to be easy to install, easy to use, and easy to make your own. This production release is available from MEPIS and public mirrors. The ISO files for 32 and 64 bit processors are SimplyMEPIS-1.5G_11.0.00_32.iso and SimplyMEPIS-1.5G_11.0.00_64.iso.

MEPIS has always been easy to install. 8 years ago, MEPIS created the first fully functional (what you see, is what you install) live CD and graphical installer. You only need to answer a few simple questions and within minutes you'll be ready to start using your new system. It doesn't get any simpler.

antix-M11 Released by Anti

Just over a year since the release of antiX-M8.5, the antiX-team are pleased to announce that antiX MEPIS 11 'Jayaben Desai' - a fast, light, very flexible and complete desktop and livecd based on Debian Testing and SimplyMEPIS - is now available in full, base and core versions (for 686 and 486 kernel all using hybridiso). This release defaults to a fully customised icewm-Rox desktop (fluxbox, wmii and dwm are also installed) using a SimplyMEPIS 2.6.36-4 kernel, our own assistants to help configuration, and the usual range of applications for desktop use.

SimplyMEPIS RC2 Out

April 7, 2011 -- SimplyMEPIS 11.0 RC2, aka 10.9.96, has been uploaded. This is considered to be a minor update.

The primary change since RC1 is the update to a kernel that includes an experimental version of the aufs driver, which makes it possible to run the DVD with a read/write filesystem.

Automatic x configuration should work better with older nvidia cards.

Automatic fstab configuration should produce a better default entry for ntfs partitions.

The default panel configuration has been tweaked, hopefully, for the final time.

SimplyMEPIS 11.0 nears Final with RC1 Release

Mar 28, 2011 -- Warren Woodford has uploaded SimplyMEPIS 10.9.94, the first release candidate of MEPIS 11.0. This RC is available from MEPIS and public mirrors. The ISO files for 32 and 64 bit processors are SimplyMEPIS-DVD-TEST_10.9.94_32.iso and SimplyMEPIS-DVD-TEST_10.9.94_64.iso.

MEPIS 11.0 RC1 is build from a Debian Squeeze stable foundation with the following major differences: a MEPIS configured kernel, NVIDIA driver 260.19.21, KDE 4.5.1, Firefox 4.0, Libreoffice 3.3.2, and the usual MEPIS tweaks that make it ready to use out-of-the-box.

For 11.0, the MEPIS community has produced an attractive new desktop theme and an excellent updated user manual, as well as a quick start guide.

SimplyMEPIS 11.0beta3 Available

Mar 7, 2011 -- A final beta of SimplyMEPIS 11.0 has been uploaded.

Warren says: "There haven't been any major changes since beta2, but there have been quite a few minor changes, so it seemed like a good idea to test a new master disk before declaring an RC."

Please report any problems at the MEPIS forum at
